We are pleased to invite you to the Thematic Session on the IRISS–SSbD Project organized by the IPSEN NTUA team and SusChem GR which will be held at the Royal Olympic Hotel in Athens on Tuesday, June 20th 2023 at 13.30pm – 14.30pm (EEST), within the frame of the ESCAPE-33 Conference which is devoted to “Green and sustainable process systems engineering in the digital age”.
The IRISS session in ESCAPE-33 aims to bring together IRISS, EFCE and ESCAPE communities, as well as, national and regional stakeholders, to discuss the Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) framework and initiatives, their role and prospects in delivering sustainable processes and products. Under this perspective, the up-to-date results and achievements of the IRISS project, as well as the upcoming activities and events will be presented.
Who is it for
Lack of data has been publicly identified as a constraining bottleneck for an SSbD approach in research and innovation in the Chemical and Material Industry. In silico models are one of the most important tools to generate such data. This session addresses both worlds.
For Systems practitioners: Full deployment of SSbD stands to benefit critically from systems-level design and re-design thinking, as exposed in ESCAPE-33. SSbD emerges as a priority application for systems tools.
For SSbD practitioners: ESCAPE-33 hosts four themes with relevance to SSbD (Themes 1, 2, 3 & 7). These will open a window to a portfolio of tools and approaches for the SSbD community of IRISS.
The Project
The IRISS project is a Coordination and Support Action project within the research and innovation funding programme Horizon Europe, aiming to connect, synergize and transform the Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design (SSbD) community in Europe and globally, towards a lifecycle approach with integrated safety, climate neutrality, circularity, and functionality aspects already at an early stage of design of materials and products, including their production processes. A number of roadmaps will be developed towards full implementation of SSbD in research and innovation, including needs that exist in the policy area, in close collaboration with industry. Focus is on the value chains for textiles, construction, electronics, energy, automotive, packaging and fragrances.
The Conference
ESCAPE-33 anticipates emerging and significant challenges in Process Systems Engineering, as these relate to sustainable development of chemical processes, development and systematic evaluation of processing technologies and process innovation, and research which promotes circular economy paradigms, including social aspects and social engagement networks to incentivize and involve citizens.
